75 years ago  

(1934)  

J.W. Kennamer purchased the two-story residence on Tyler Street known as the W.A. Bragg place. The consideration was $600. The sale was made through Bahner & Company. 

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Springer entertained with a dinner party at their suburban home west of Conway in honor of Miss Minnie Hawkins, head of the music conservatory at Central College. A delicious menu was served to Miss Hawkins, Miss Janice Singleton, Miss Daisy Dickerman, Miss Mary Sharrock, Mrs. Hal Fraser, Mrs. R. J. Parker and the hosts.

 

  

50 years ago 

(1959)

The Eager Beaver Garden Club met at Fairside Elementary School. The members made leaf books. A talk on the national bird- the bald eagle- was given by Norman Allinder. The meeting was closed with the garden club pledge.

Crisp temperatures, clear skies and dry weather presented an idealistic football setting as some 500 dedicated Wampus Cat boosters climbed aboard a special nine-car train to attend the grid match between Conway and Hope. The football squad departed at noon by a chartered bus. The Wampus Cats, ranked 12th in Arkansas, were going up against the 19th ranked team in the state. It shaped up to be a struggle between a sturdy Hope defense and a prolific Conway offense.

(1984)

Charlotte Howard was selected as feature editor of the 1985 Razorback Yearbook. Miss Howard was a 1984 graduate of Conway High School and was a freshman pre-medical student in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Margaret Henry was serving as pledge president of Delta Beta Sigma sorority. Other officers were Sarah Nabholz, Kim Ferguson, Tracy Gordy, Bliss Jennings, Tami Mitchell and Owen Nabholz. The pledge mother was Hilda Malpica.

(1999)

Molly Stanley was named Artist of the Month by the Conway League of Artists. Her watercolor, “The Front Porch,” was on exhibit at the Faulkner County Library.

The under 11 Conway Fusion won its division in the Lakewood Fallfest tournament at North Little Rock. Team members were Jay Newport, Collin Reed, Sam Welborn, Jim Fleisher, Ben Dossett, Josh Ludford, Andrew Heath, Chris Knight, Jonathan Stalnaker, Daniel Rasmussen, John Jolly, Bryan Harris, Matthew Guin, Ben Coulter and Spencer Stanton. Coaches were Dwayne Dossett and Todd Welborn.
