The Sisters Rosensweig, written by Wendy Wasserstein is a serious comedy about success and longing and the journey through both in order to find a moment of pure, unadulterated happiness.
The play chronicles three Jewish-American sisters, Sara, Gorgeous, and Pfeni, originally from an almost entirely Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn. Sara, an international banker; Gorgeous, a semi-famous radio advice talk show host; and Pfeni, a travel writer, all meet in London to celebrate Sara’s 54th birthday after the death of their mother.
The sisters reminisce about their history, their relationships, their womanhood and their ethnicity against the backdrop of the end of Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union. Some language and circumstances may be considered for adult audiences.
The production is directed by Ann Muse, associate professor or theatre. Scenic and lighting design is by Danny Grace, professor of theatre and costume and make-up design is by Connie Campbell, visiting assistant professor.
The production is sponsored by the Hendrix Department of Theatre Arts and Dance. Hendrix, founded in 1876, is a selective, residential, undergraduate liberal arts college emphasizing experiential learning in a demanding yet supportive environment.
The college is featured in the 2010 edition of the Princeton Review as one of the country’s best 371 colleges, was identified as the nation’s top “Up and Coming” liberal arts college for 2010 by U.S. News and World Report, and is ranked among 44 “Best Buy” colleges by the 2010 Fiske Guide to Colleges.
