Expenses of candidates in the Democratic primaries were filed with the county clerk. T.F. Ford, for county clerk $220; John F. Griffith, for county clerk; $210; J.A. Hutto, for county judge, $240; W.M. Harrell, for county judge, $250; and S.H. Shumate, for tax assessor, $187.50.

Notice: My barbershop has been moved four doors north to Halter building, Railroad Avenue. All children’s hair cuts 20 cents. Joe Spears has joined with me and invites his friends to come and see him. E.D. Shock.

(1959)

The Central Baptist Church of Conway planned to conduct a youth led revival. George Reddin, son of the Rev. and Mrs. A.R. Reddin, would serve as your pastor. The Rev. Jack Bloxom of Magnolia would be the evangelist. 

Southern Realty Co. advertised the following home: An attractive six-room home at 1144 Clifton Street. This one is in A-1 Condition, lots of built ins, nice kitchen, inlaid linoleum, plenty of closets, large carport, store room, lots of shade. This home is located on a large lot, 75x200 feet, has a good garden and is in a good state of repair. A real livable home. Owner is very anxious to sell. $8,000. (1984)

New residents of Conway were welcomed at a get acquainted coffee by the Conway Newcomers Club at the home of Mrs. Pat Manning. Special guests were Karen Smith, Claudette Hunter, Joanne Kinningham, Sue Gilbert, Cathy, Cicchirillo, Rita Austin, Kathy Paulson and Joanne Dillingham. Mrs. Jane Mabry was president of the Newcomers Club.

The Pilot Club of Conway awarded a scholarship to Mrs. Vivian Lawson Adams. Mrs. Adams was a graduate from Conway High School and had attended Hendrix College. She was a senior at the University of Central Arkansas majoring in art education with a minor in history.

(1999)

Members of Altrusa International met at the home of Ann Cantrell. President Diana Arms presided. The program was presented by Kristin Cantrell. She spoke about her three-month internship at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida. She worked exclusively with orchids, a specialty of the gardens. Following the program, Altrusans were treated to fruit sundaes.

The city of Conway was awarded $348,000 in Community Development Block Grant money by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The money would be used to fund street and flood drain improvements and to address housing needs. Street projects were planned for some parts of Fifth Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Hayes Street and Vine Street.
