Beatrice Lorene Alverson Mitchell, 85, of Sherwood died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009. She was born in Little Rock on Feb. 8, 1924 to the late Lemeul and Georgia Lydia Chidester Alverson. Her parents, husband Harold Mitchell, Sr., two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Beatrice was a member of the Victory Missionary Baptist Church of Sherwood where she taught Sunday School and assisted with the children’s church. She also helped start, as well as being a part of, the Puppet Ministry. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and had served as Worthy Matron, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and helped with the Rainbow Girls of Masonic Lodge No. 754.
Survivors include her four sons, Harold Mitchell, Jr. (Barbara) of Monticello, Bobby Mitchell (Jonnie) of Pottsville, Ricky Mitchell (Christie) of Panama City, Fla., and Tommy Mitchell (Kim) of Conway; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; her brother W.F. Alverson of California and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Victory Missionary Baptist Church in Sherwood with burial to follow at 2 p.m. in Shady Grove Cemetery, Clarendon. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home (7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, AR 72116, 501-835-3515).
