HOT SPRINGS (AP) — Former University of Central Arkansas student Sarah Slocum has been crowned Miss Arkansas.

The 23-year-old Slocum entered the pageant as Miss Ouachita River. In winning the title of Miss Arkansas on Saturday, Slocum also won a $20,000 scholarship provided by Ted and Shannon Boy Skokos and more than $50,000 in awards, wardrobe, transportation and gifts.

She will represent Arkansas at the 2010 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas.

Slocum received her undergraduate degree from the UCA and is a second-year law student at the University of Arkansas. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 2004.

For her talent presentation at the pageant, Slocum sang “The Prayer.” Her platform issue is “Paving the Way: Encouraging Higher Education.”

Pageant winner

Saying Slocum was a former student makes her sound like a college dropout instead of an alumni of UCA.
