Maltbia: #Goals

Hello everyone!

I have been told over the years that goals serve as the roadmap that leads us to a place of personal success in life. Goals are there to point us in the right direction. Goals are also there to monitor our progress, while also pointing out our failures. Today, I want to share with you three things to remember while striving to reach your God inspired goals.

1. We need to remember that success doesn’t happen overnight! I have discovered that success, even when it is God ordained, takes time to achieve. No doubt, we have all heard various forms of the old cliché that states, “The elevator to success has never been installed. We all have to take the stairs.” In other words, to be successful in life is not always easy. In fact, achieving our goals in life takes passion, determination, and a whole lot of patience. The Bible says it best in Hebrews 6:12, “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” Specifically speaking, if you’re not willing to endure difficult moments along the way, you’re certainly not ready for success.

2. We need to remember that setbacks along the way are to be expected! There is an old saying, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!” Always remember, even the greatest among us have experienced setbacks along the way. In fact, the Bible explains it in this manner in Proverbs 24:16, “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again…” The scripture teaches us that failure in life is not falling down. Failure in life is refusing to get back up. Yes, we all have mishaps and setbacks in life, but we have to get up, dust ourselves off, and continue down the pathway of success that God has prepared for us to travel.

3. We need to remember that opposition is part of the process! Therefore, anytime you do something positive in life, you should expect opposition. The reality of the matter is everyone is not going to be happy for your success, nor are they going to make it easy for you to achieve your goals. Peter says it best in 1Peter 4:12, “Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.” In other words, Peter says, you have to anticipate problems along the way. In fact, you have to assume, on the front end, that someone will try to oppose your efforts. Don’t be shocked when you face opposition. Opposition is just part of the process.

Having goals in life are critical to personal success. Yet, achieving those goals won’t always be easy. We have to remember that success doesn’t happen overnight. We have to remember that setbacks along the way are to be expected. And, we have to remember that opposition is just part of the process. I want to leave you with Proverbs 21:5, “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” Take the necessary time needed to develop God given goals. It will benefit you in the long run.

Blessings…
