Westside holds annual spelling bee event

Westside Elementary held its annual spelling bee event Nov. 16. Bennett Miller, left, took home third place, James Fisher took home first and Cooper Myatt received second place for their efforts during the event.

Students at Westside Elementary in Greenbrier competed against each other recently during the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Gifted and Talented Specialist Rebecca Barnard said the school has been a long time participant in the event which was held Nov. 16.

First and second place winners will advance to the Faulkner County Spelling Bee on Jan. 13, 2018 at the James H. Clark Auditorium in Conway.

There, participants will compete for a chance to qualify for state and national competition.

This year’s winners from Westside were fifth grader James Fisher who took home first place, fifth grader Cooper Myatt, who took home second, and fifth grader Bennett Miller, who received third.
