ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

• Choosing to Excel is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be nondiscrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided Monday-Friday at the Conway Ministry Center at766 Harkrider, Conway. Breakfast will be served from 9-10 a.m. and lunch from 12:30-1 p.m.

UPCOMING EVENTS

• The city of Damascus will hold their monthly City Council meeting Tuesday, August 8 at 6 p.m. at 17319 HWY 65 South in Damascus.

• The Parkinson’s Disease Support Group will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, August 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the McGee Center in Conway. For more information, call Bronnie Rose at 501-329-6282.

TODAY

• Christian Home Educators Fellowship (CHEF) hosts their Back to School Kick-off at Antioch Baptist Church Gym from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Meet vendors in the area and sign up for activities for homeschoolers. There will be snacks and door prizes. Any interested businesses or vendors can contact CHEF through CHEFAR.org.

THURSDAY

• Faulkner County Republican Women hold their monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. at Smittys BBQ. Their guest speaker will be Tommy Land.

• The Central Community Development Institute hosts a Lunch and Learn with Ben Muldrow at UCA Downtown, 1105 W. Oak St. The event is from noon to 1:30 p.m. For more information, cost of attendance and to RSVP, visit uca.edu/go/muldrow.

FRIDAY

•Conway Human Development Center, Volunteer Council hosts a ribbon cutting for a Community Garden at 2 p.m. at the Family Visitation Complex located on the campus at 150 E. Siebenmorgen Road. The garden will offer new job opportunities for residents.

SATURDAY

• FIRST DAY OF TAX FREE WEEKEND State and local sales tax will not be collected on the sale of Clothing and footwear, Clothing accessories and equipment, School supplies, School art supplies and School instructional materials.

• Mayflower hosts a School Reunion from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. The event will be in the Mayflower High School Cafeteria. There will be a potluck. For more information, call Karen (Oliver) Young at 310-621-7563.

• The Arkansas Antiquarian Booksellers Association hosts the first day of the 32nd Annual Arkansas Book and Paper Show from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Jacksonville Community Center at 5 Municipal Drive in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students and school employees with current school ID. Parking is free at the Community Center. For additional information call 501-985-1663.

Floyds establish UCA scholarship

The family of the late Meredith Floyd has established a scholarship in her memory at their alma mater, the University of Central Arkansas, entitled the Meredith Susanne Floyd Endowed Scholarship.
