Road work starting on Highway 65, Lower Ridge Road

Posted: July 21, 2014 - 10:32am

Starting Monday night, road crews will be working on Highway 65 between Interstate 40 and the Cadron Creek. A second project will start Tuesday at Lower Ridge Road.

David Ross of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department said crews will start Monday night patching holes on Highway 65 between I-40 and the Cadron Creek. Workers will be on the roads in the evenings between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., he said. Once the patching work is finished, crews will lay new asphalt during the weeks of July 28 and Aug. 4.

Conway City Engineer Ronnie Hall said Lower Ridge Road will be closed for improvements Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. between Highway 65 and the Conway Sports Center.

Road crews will give the intersection at Highway 65 a less steep approach and add a left turn lane so that right-turning traffic can proceed through the intersection, Hall said.

Lower Ridge Road will also be closed to westbound traffic from Thursday through the end of the week, but eastbound traffic will be allowed through the work area, he said. Detour signs will be placed on Museum Road to give drivers advanced warning of the lane closure, Hall said.

What?

Does anyone who writes for the LCD live in Conway or drive on the referenced roads or have a map or functioning GPS? Ability to decode a calendar wouldn't hurt either.

Try Again

Don't blame the LCD personnel who wrote the article. More than likely, the dysfunctional information came straight to them in an AHTD press release. And we know they aren't the brightest crayons in the box...just look at how screwed up this state's roads are.

Cadron at 65

The Cadron Creek crosses Highway 65 just south of East Cadron Ridge Road and West Cadron Ridge Road, oddly enough. So, we're talking about almost 5 miles of road being re-surfaced.

The Cadron Creek

I'm not a native Arkansan and before I became a resident here friends took me on floats on Cadron Creek. We began our floats north of Greenbrier or off Highway 124W. I understand there is an East Fork that runs just south of the two Cadron Ridge Roads and that it either flows from or runs into the Cadron Creek. I've not been on that creek and have never heard it referred to as Cadron Creek. My old 2011 AHTD map shows Cadron Creek crossing 65 just south of Twin Groves. There is no notation for a creek just south of the two Cadron Ridge Roads. Lower Ridge Road, as I recall, connects Highways 64 and 65. Apparently it will be closed at Highway 64 from Thursday through Saturday.

Cadron creek(s)

There's an east fork and a north fork, but it sounds like you probably floated the more challenging north fork. East fork is the third bridge north of the freeway and I'm thinking the north fork will be the fourth.
