VILONIA — The head of the Department of Homeland Security has surveyed damage in areas of Arkansas affected by the April 27 tornado outbreak.
Secretary Jeh Johnson was joined by former President Bill Clinton and state and federal officials as he toured areas Mayflower and Vilonia. That sustained damage in the severe weather.
Johnson met with the mayors of Mayflower and Vilonia and other local officials as well as first responders and survivors to discuss the ongoing response. Johnson says the Federal Emergency Management Agency has more than 160 staff on the ground in Arkansas to support response efforts and support to recover from the storms.
President Obama has declared a major disaster for the states of Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama, making federal funding available in counties severely damaged by the storms.
