Armed robbery near UCA, authorities say

An armed robbery occurred near the University of Central Arkansas campus Sunday afternoon, according to university police.

The UCA Police Department said the robbery occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Western Avenue between College Avenue and Bruce Street. The suspects are said to be three black males in a green SUV.

Conway police spokesperson La Tresha Woodruff said no one was injured, and the robbery itself appeared to be the result of a botched drug deal.

Woodruff said the victim called the suspects to purchase marijuana. When the suspects arrived, they brandished a weapon, robbed the victim and left the area, Woodruff said.

Arch Jones, director of organizational and community services for university police, said a campus alert was sent out because the suspects were said to have fled south toward campus.

Police patrols have been increased in and around campus, but Jones said no other incidents or suspect sightings have occurred.

Residents are asked to dial 911 to report any suspicious activity, police said.
