Conway, Mayflower fire departments extinguish grass fire

Posted: September 13, 2013 - 1:44pm

Crews from the Conway and Mayflower fire departments extinguished a grassfire that ignited Friday afternoon.

Conway Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Mike Winter said crews responded to the fire, about the size of a football field, around 12:30 p.m. at the 132 mile marker, on the westbound side of Interstate 40.

Winter said officials were not yet sure on a source of the fire. Motorists viewing the fire caused a minor, two-vehicle accident while crews responded to the fire, Winter said.

Faulkner County was placed under a burn ban 3 p.m. Tuesday by Faulkner County Judge Allen Dodson. Faulkner County is one of 26 Arkansas counties currently under a burn ban, according to the Arkansas Forestry Commission.
