Alan English, publisher of the Log Cabin Democrat, will be leaving the paper to pursue other interests, effective Sept. 20. Morris is posting the position and will immediately review applicants for a replacement.
During his tenure as publisher, English led new Cabin coverage initiatives, digital, mobile improvements and quality initiatives. Previously, he worked as vice president of audience and executive editor for The Augusta Chronicle in Georgia.
“I haven’t been in Conway anywhere near what I anticipated,” said English. “Leaving wasn’t on my radar, but an opportunity of a special nature presented itself that I could not turn down. The people at the Log Cabin are incredible and while it is difficult to leave, I can’t wait to see where the new leadership takes it. This community is a special one that is growing and thriving.”
“Alan was the right person, at the right time for leadership needed in our company. We are sad to see him leave, but we wish him the best in his new opportunity,” said Derek May, executive vice president of newspapers for Morris Publishing Group.
English expects to be out and about in the community as he closes work at the Log Cabin in the next week.
"Alan has done a tremendous job and accomplished a great deal in a very short period of time in Conway. He will be greatly missed in the community and the Morris company," said Les Simpson, regional publisher for Morris Publishing Group.
English and his wife Janice have two children and plan to maintain their home in Shreveport, La., where Janice is a teacher at Montessori School for Shreveport. English has been in the newspaper industry for 26 years, starting as staff photographer for the Knoxville Journal and working through positions throughout the industry.
