The Crain family celebrated another milestone this morning with the groundbreaking for its new dealership Crain Kia of Conway.
“Conway is growing, and Kia is a great product,” said Drew Dees, marketing director of the Crain Automotive Team.
The dealership will be located on Amity Road, the access road off Dave Ward exit 129. The lot that was previously occupied by Hawks Mobile Homes. The William Lewis Trust sold the five acre lot to Crain Investents, LP in December 2012. Crain Kia will create 70 job opportunities for Conway citizens.
The Crains are partnering with Salter Construction and Chapel Associates Architects in an effort to create additonal job opportunities. Crain General Manager Jay Myer said working with local businesses is one of the most important steps of the bidding process. “We want to do business with the peole of Conway,” he said. “We want to take care of Conway first.”
Brad Lacy, president and chief executive officer of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, says the new dealership will not only create a number of jobs to stimulate Conway’s economy, but also bring in a large amount of sales tax revenue. “Cars generate a large amount of sales tax,” he said. “The city budget is dependent on sales tax.”
Dees said he expects construction to be complete in six to seven months and the dealership to be up and running by the spring of 2014.
