Faulkner County Sheriff Andy Shock says two suspects are in custody in connection with his office's investigation of a suspicious death near Greenbrier.
Shock says the two suspects, 38-year-old Howard Dallas Short, and 25-year-old April Cullum were taken into custody Tuesday night in connection with the death of 64-year-old Michael Robb.
The investigation began for the sheriff's office Monday afternoon when Shock said Robb's sister called to report her brother missing. Robb's body was discovered around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday at 27 Wilson Road, east of Greenbrier, by a neighbor.
Authorities believe Robb died days before his body was discovered.
Shock would not comment on the nature of Robb's death, citing continued investigation and a pending autopsy, but did confirm that death by natural causes has been ruled out.
After further invesigation by deputies, credit card activity on the victim's account was discovered, which developed Short and Cullum as suspects. Shock said agencies were notified statewide of the suspects' possible vehicle, which was located Tuesday night by an Atkins Police Department officer.
Shock said the suspects were approached by officers and attempted to run. Shock said Cullum was taken into custody, but Short was able to escape in a vehicle.
Following a high-speed pursuit for several miles, which Shock said reached speeds of 130 mph, Short's vehicle began to have mechanical issues and came to a stop. Shock said the suspect refused to open the door, at which point deputies broke out a window to apprehend the suspect.
Authorities believe Short ingested some type of controlled substance due to his lethargic state after being taken into custody.
Shock said MEMS was dispatched to the scene and the suspect was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center where he is being guarded by three deputies. The female suspect is currently being questioned by police, authorities said.
Shock said no charges have been filed against the two suspects, as several interviews and further investigation continues. Shock was unable to provide a timeline on when charges might be filed.
Shock confirmed Short and Robb were known acquaintances, and possibly family. Shock said the suspects were believed to be a couple. Shock also confirmed that Short is an active parolee and has prior convictions, and that Cullum has multiple active warrants out for her arrest.
