Rachel's Rumors: Pickles Gap worth a second glance

If you think you’ve seen Pickles Gap Village, don’t judge too quickly if you haven’t been in the past month.

Owner Janis Mack said a recent merger with a well-known local candy maker is the latest of many improvements at the attraction.

You may be familiar with Sweet Temptations products, made locally by Reba Holland. For years her confections have been showing up in specialty shops all over Faulkner County. Now she’s a staple at the Pickle Barrel Fudge Factory. You will find all of her decadent, chocolate-dipped delicacies on display there.

By the way, the fudge factory has somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 to 30 flavors of fudge available daily. Also, they have tons of locally made products -- like jellies, jams, salsa, sorghum and so forth. Pickles Gap also has its own line of seasonings, mixes and cookbooks.

If you are so new to the area that you don’t know what place I’m talking about, or if you haven’t been to Pickles Gap Village in a couple of decades, consider heading north of Conway on Highway 65 and giving it a chance.

New downtown

Blue Kite Boutique opened downtown on Oak Street recently. It is a great fit, in my opinion, because the store offers a ponderous variety of handmade items created by local folks. The merchandise is on trend with what people want, and it is reasonably priced. Therefore, I might add, very tempting. We’re talking home decor, jewelry, clothing, even some furniture. Swing by and check it out.

You may have noticed that Hog Wild Family Fun Center has put a sign up announcing it is coming soon to the old Goody’s building. A few weeks ago I described this place, which will have arcade games, bumper cars, laser tag, food and fun for the whole family. Stay tuned. This place and more is coming soon.
