I was rummaging through my rumor resources recently when I stumbled across something that indicated a Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen is likely coming to East Oak Street. What a surprise this was to me. I had not heard anything about it. I have been hearing rumblings about some other restaurants coming to East Oak Street, however, so I would not be surprised if that area starts transforming in the next couple of years. Stick around for updates on all of that.
Park Hill Home opened recently in downtown on Oak Street. The home interiors store is located in the building that was formerly Conway Tuxedo and Bridal, which has been completely remodeled. I’m looking forward to browsing through as soon as I get a chance.
Also recently opened? GiGi’s Cupcakes in the Conway Commons shopping center. I couldn’t quite pass up the opportunity to swing by and sample the merchandise. If that offends anyone, here is my defense. I know we have a lot of great bakeries run by local folks. There is at least one I can barely stay out of (as I love baked goods but hate to bake). But I look at it like this. A locally owned place makes my favorite cheeseburger, but that doesn’t mean I never stop at a drive-through. There are enough of us to eat all of the cheeseburgers in town. There are enough of us to eat all the cupcakes too. Hooray for a healthy population.
By the way, GiGi’s has takeout menus that list the 30-something cupcakes they make every week (for crying out loud). Word to the wise — save up your calories before you go. That’s a lot of sweet.
Don’t forget about Toppers Pizza, which should be open by the time you read this and planning a grand opening event on Saturday. It is at Oak and Harkrider Streets.
I have some really good rumors sitting on the back burner just waiting to boil over. Keep coming back for more. The kettle could start whistling any time now.
