Chief A. J. Gary: Thank you for your support

Letter to the community

Posted: February 9, 2013 - 6:38pm

As you can all imagine this last week has been a difficult time for the Conway Police Department, and family and friends of Officer William Michael McGary. On behalf of the Officers of the Conway Police Department, thank you for all the support you have given us. Thank you for the calls, letters, emails and texts, of encouragement. The members of the Conway Police Department are proud and honored to serve the citizens of this great city.

Thanks to the Arkansas State Police, Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office, Conway Fire Department and University of Central Arkansas for providing service and protection to the citizens of Conway, allowing all Conway Police Department Officers to attend Officer McGary’s funeral.

Officer McGary was a “Great” Officer. He served this community with professionalism, dedication and honor. He did everything he was asked to do and more. He was a generous person who helped the citizens of this community and his fellow officers. His generosity, through the organ donor program, continues beyond his death.

The Conway Police Department has lost four officers in the line of duty. We remember and honor these officers every year in May during National Police Week. Soon the name of Officer William Michael McGary will be added to the memorial that stands in front of your police department and on the wall at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C.

We will never forget Officer McGary or the sacrifice he made. The officers of the Conway Police Department will continue watch over this community and to serve and protect its citizens. They will continue to carry out their duties with dedication and honor.

Thank you again for the community support we have received.

— Chief A. J. Gary
