I often hear people say “forget about the past” and don’t dwell on your past. They say let it go and I also hear them say “you can’t change the past, what’s done is done.”
You know what? All these sayings are true, I agree with you. Romans 13:9, the lateral part of it reads: you should love your neighbor as yourself.
Well I love you enough to tell you about my past and let you know, don’t go down that road I went down. Now who is my neighbor? Guess what, you are my neighbor! I love you so much to tell you my testimony so you don’t go down that same road I took.
If you are on that road, I’m here to let you know that Jesus is the exit sign. What I am trying to say is that most of you know I used to be an alcoholic and a drug user but God gave me a fresh new start, a new beginning, and a new name.
I see so many of my brothers and sisters going down that same road that I went down. I’m not here to judge or to throw rocks at them, I’m here to let them know that God loves them and He cares so much about and for you.
He even wants to help you. I am a living witness He can help you and take any addiction away from you that you might have but only if you ask Him to. You see, God doesn’t make anyone do anything they don’t want to do. God gave us free will.
You can either destroy yourself or let Him save you and that’s the bottom line. God is the God of love and mercy. I’ll take mercy any day, I’ll take mercy over money, sex, alcohol, drugs any day of the week. Amen.
I want people to know when I bring up my past it’s not to brag on myself it’s to talk about it to let people know that the road I was on 20 years ago, the road of alcohol, drugs and the fast life will destroy you if you continue on it.
All I want to do is to point you to the exit sign (Jesus). He took me off that road and I know He can do the same for you if you would ask Him to. This old world revolves around and around.
People are winning souls for Jesus and people are winning souls for the devil. It’s time for you to choose whose side you are going to be on. I want to leave you with this little story.
Back in Kansas City in the 80’s there was a man who was hooked on alcohol and speed. Every morning before he went to work he took some speed and chased it with gin. Now the place he worked was an eight story building and in that building they made safety glasses and stuff like that.
One morning after he took some Black Beauties and some Robin Eggs, which are speed, then chased it with gin and for some reason he went up to the eighth floor to do something, he doesn’t remember what or why he went to the eighth floor, but he remembered standing by the window and he heard a voice say: jump.
That voice repeated three times: jump. But at that time he didn’t know Jesus but Jesus knew him so when that voice was telling him to jump — by the way he found out that voice was the voice of the devil trying to kill him — but Jesus stepped in and stopped him.
He didn’t know it but Jesus had His hand on him telling him: Don’t do it. I never told anyone this story before. Only God knows this. By the way, that man was me.
Yes I was strung out on speed and alcohol. It was so easy for me to get it so it wasn’t a problem for me to have it every day. I’m trying to let you know the devil doesn’t care for you, he is trying to kill you any way he can.
I’m here to let you know drugs and alcohol are dangerous. And I’m also here to let you know that God loves you no matter who you are or what you have done.
I ask you today to receive His Son Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Ask Him to show you the exit sign to get away from drugs and alcohol.
Even when you think Jesus doesn’t care for you because you have done so much wrong, I’m here to let you know He does care for you and He loves you. May God bless and keep you. Amen.
