Another form of dirty politics...littering.

I found a political flyer tucked into the doorhandle of my car the other day.  I'm not a fan of people putting unwanted papers on my car without my permission.  The funny thing is that this was a flyer in support of a candidate I was considering voting for because I did not care for the voting record of their opponent.  Now I'm unhappy with that candidate because their campaign led to trash being left on my property and I might just end up voting against them out of spite.

An unwanted and worthless item left on my property is considered littering in my book.  All it does is clutter up my car until I can do the responsible thing and throw it in a trash can or recycle bin where it belongs.

Let it be known that if you put a political flyer on my car I will probably end up voting against you on principal.  So if you're smart you'll put your opponent's flyers on my car.  ;)

I agree

I agree, they can send us flyers in the mail (Support the post office!) and I am ok with ads in paper and online (Support your local reporter and paper) but I honestly think it goes to far when I am unwillingly supporting the local printer and also the crews picking up trash for their community service or cause they spending time in the county lock up lol.

Agreed

If some politician wants to send me junk mail then that's fine. As you pointed out, at least they're supporting the USPS. Besides, as soon as I sort through my mail my first trip is to the trashcan to discard of such materials. No real inconvenience. If they want to place ads in the paper, on the web, or on TV then that's fine too. Chalk it up to stimulating the economy. I can ignore them if I have no interest in them.

Unwanted papers being placed on my car is completely separate. I don't have a trashcan handy to dispose of it right away and to ignore it completely would result in it blowing off and become trash on the side of the road. I do the responsible thing and put it in my car until I can place it in a trashcan and be rid of it. It is very inconvenient and the lack of consideration behind it is very aggravating.

well

Isn't there a number we can call to report littering? Or does that only get used when someone ticks us off in their car?

Hmm

Good point. I only see those signs on the interstate so I'm not sure if that is just for state highways or not. I figured this would be more of a municipal issue since it was happening within the city limits on Clownway. Is there a local ordinance prohibiting this?

It never has bothered me one bit...

when someone places literature on my car. I have always wondered why it bothers some people. I mean, the person putting the stuff on my car is out a lot of time and money and if it's boring, I can throw it directly in the trash. Seems like a silly reason not to vote for someone.

I see where you're coming from

If you're ok with it then that's great. I suppose the reason it annoys me is that I see it as an additional hassle. I have to take the time to remove it before I can operate my vehicle and sometimes when I'm trying to get in my vehicle my hands are already full of stuff and it's just one more thing to try and juggle. Especially when they try to tuck it in the door handle or the side of the door where it will fall to the ground if I don't grab it right then. I don't have a trash receptacle in my car so once I get it in there I have to put it somewhere out of the way until I have an opportunity to throw it away. Yay clutter!

I don't go around putting trash on other people's cars or property so I would hope people would have the same courtesy towards my property.

I wish there was a simple way to opt-out of it so that people who don't want it like me can avoid having to deal with it while people who are indifferent like you can still receive it. Perhaps I'll try hanging a "No Solicitors" sign on my window and see how that works. ;)

here go buzz ;)

Call your County Judge. He can be reached at 450-4900.

@ ucbs
Maybe they might have accomplished just this very thing, "... if you're smart you'll put your opponent's flyers on my car."

But seriously, why not give this candidate a call and let them know their campaign people may want to choose a different route with the flyers. He/she might actually appreciate knowing.

Very true

I wondered if the candidate was aware of this practice being done in support of them. It wasn't directly an advertisement for a specific candidate per se. It was centered on a certain topic and how Candidate A was not supportive of it while Candidate B was. Because of this they want people to support Candidate B.

I'm not sure who the group was, whether they were working on Candidate B's campaign or were a third party organization. Candidate B may be completely unaware of what they were doing.
