Magie-Mabrey Eye Clinic Ad

I keep seeing the banner ad at the top of the LCD's page with the picture of Dr. Magie and I can't help but wonder why he is wearing a stethoscope around his neck.  I realize he's a doctor and he wants to give off that vibe in his picture with the white lab coat and all.  But why?  I'm curious how often he needs to use a stethoscope in his day-to-day work.  I've never seen an eye doctor use a stethoscope in a visit, much less have one on them.

Something even more interesting...

...I knew a guy once (and some of you may know him) who was always wearing scrubs. Every time I saw him out and about, he was wearing scrubs.

So, one day I ask him and he tells me that he works at such and such clinic.

Funny thing is, a few days after that I was talking to someone else who knew him. The guy worked as an accountant for the clinic.

True story. He worked as an accountant, but still felt the need to wear scrubs.

Major. Complex. There.

easy

Chicks dig guys in scrubs. They immediately think doctor and the $$$ start flowing through their minds. ;)

Now that you mention it ....

... I've yet to see any real live nurses at my doctor's office wearing one of those teeny tiny nurses outfits, you know, with the white thigh highs and spike heels.

That might work in a political ad.

High Blood Pressure

Some years back, my husband went for an eye exam and they discovered that his blood pressure was extremely high and that he was in imminent danger of a stroke. The optometrist insisted that my husband see his regular physician THAT day, and did not complete the eye exam. My husband did see our family doctor, who immediately started him on medication, and a stroke was averted, thanks to the optometrist. So, yes, the stethoscope is appropriate.

Interesting

So was it that office's SOP to check the BP of their patients? Regardless, I'm glad they caught it.

Actually . . .

Actually, the optometrist can recognize high blood pressure when he looks into the eyes. There are changes in the blood vessels there that can be recognized.
