...when you have to stop to allow a chicken to cross the road.
Yes, it sounds like the punchline to a joke but its true. This really happened to me today. On my way to work on Highway 92 in Conway County between Hill Creek and Plumerville I had to stop in the middle of the highway to allow a chicken....yes, a chicken, to cross the road. It made me laugh quite hard and the first thing I thought of was 'well you know you live in the country when you have to stop for a chicken.'
:) Did make me pretty cheerful though on the rest of my drive to work here at the Cabin.
When I called my husband and told him about it, he of course had to ask "But the real question is why was it crossing the road?" :P

At least it wasn't a deer

When we lived in the country
We lived out on the Faulkner County line for about 12 years. One afternoon we were driving on Hwy 319 and encountered a very disoriented quail, but discovered she was less disoriented and more stressed as her chicks began to walk across the road. She ran from one side of the road to other until her 6 or 7 chicks finally made it to the other side, then they all disappeared into the brush on the opposite side of the road.
Boy, I sure do miss stuff like that since moving back into Conway 3 years ago.
