Small Businesses

Small businesses intrigue me. I’ve always wanted to open a coffee shop or other community-type business. A store front with plants, lights, and crafty-chic pinterest inspired décor. I think one day I’ll have a small business, but what exactly would it be?

The Locals have the coffee business locked down. What a fantastic group of individuals. It honestly should be picked up as a blueprint for the Small Business for dummies guide. So, if not coffee, then what?

I’d like to think a restaurant is do-able, but honestly…is it? I look back at my times of creating lemonade stands and hoping the Health Inspector didn’t notice my lack of appropriate refrigeration. It was a lot of work. Sure, I understand any small business will be a lot of work, but perhaps food service isn’t for me. I mean, I do over season my food. That must be a sign.

Maybe something esoteric, perhaps a fortune-teller surrounded by natural foods and herbs for tea. Mix a group of hipsters with the Conway suburbia folk.  Slogans could range from “Sip some tea, the future you will see,” to “Come see us today! It’s in the cards.” I think there’s a market. Everyone wants to know the future, and there’s a pretty intense health craze happening right now. Maybe you can come in for some laxative tea and ask how much weight you’ll lose. The sky’s the limit, really.

I think I should have a back-up plan. Just in case my fortune-teller and tea shop combo doesn’t pan out. Shoes are pretty popular. The name could be something snazzy “Switch Kicks.” Switch clearly meaning fashionable, him, urban, smart, couture, etc. I’ll let the imagination go wild about the extent of the shoe store sensationalism.

What are your thoughts? Time is now for small businesses. Let’s fill the city with amazing unique shops that are local and thriving! We have such a supportive community, let’s take advantage of it.
