While we are attempting to gather accurate information about the meeting that occured between Conway school officials and local pastors this morning, what has been shared by some on social media has been this:
The group Freedom From Religion has contacted administrators at the school after someone complained that religious organizations, pastors and youth pastors have been on campus visting with students.
If true, this could be a delicate situation. I remember my youth pastor having lunch with me and several of my friends every Wednesday, and I'm sure there have been thousands of other students who have had the same experiences.
There are rules in place for situations such a school-led prayer, but there are many allowances for student-led religious organizations on school campuses. I was a part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (while I am a Christian, many may not consider me an athlete) and the Fellowship of Christian Students. But that was 20 years ago. I know that schools and communities have gone through many internal battles since then.
Without knowing the details of the meeting or the outcome, one can only speculate as to what will happen next. But as long as all viewpoints are respected, hopefully a healthy resolution can come to this matter.
What we don't need is a bully from either side forcing an issue.

Did freedom of religion turn into freedom from religion.
This not like the Cathloic Church standing behind the thrones of Europe pulling the strings.
But then again back in the day you could go sit in a circle in the middle of the field a smoke weed that way "NUB'O" and crew couldn't sneak up on you @ CHS.
well
Sounds like we need a Pastor Pride Parade to encourage tolerance of Pastors.
I have edited this to point
I have edited this to point out that the group "Freedom From Religion" sent a letter to Conway schools, not the ACLU.
well
When do we get to complain?
Sincerely,
Freedom from Freedom from Religion.
possibility
I have heard after Freedom From Religion folks contacted conway schools , that the administration told pastors they where no longer allowed to meet with students on campus. I expect that is what this meeting is about. Again just hearsay
that true, a local large
that true, a local large non-denominational church was told their youth pastor could no longer come and have lunch and talk with the kids who chose, not forced, to sit and talk with him.
Very sad, also I agree with Buzzby on this issue. Tired of the PC crap
sad, but it's also scripture.
John 15:18
"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first."
So sue us
The attorney for this group sent a letter to the city of Conway last year and demanded they cease and desist their practice of praying before city council meetings. As far as I know the city still has a prayer before the meetings.
Would you be perfectly fine with
athiest groups meeting with children at lunch? I'm guessing a large community outrage would manifest. That's the problem and you must be careful what you wish for (as Louisiana is now finding out with their religious school government vouchers). You aren't only fighting for your religion, you are fighting for the right of any religion (or lack of) to visit the school.
who cares Atheist, Christian,
who cares Atheist, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Pagan, whatever as long as kids are not forced to listen to the groups let them come and sit and talk with interested youths, once kids are forced to listen then it becomes an issue.
