Corruption Eruption

Corruption abounds.

I wonder if Sheryl Sandberg is somewhere shaking her head at Martha Shoffner. Because Shoffner, former Arkansas treasurer who was convicted this week of federal bribery and extortion charges, was leaning in. Shoffner may have been heavy in the head because when she 'leaned in'...she fell in. All the way in. So, how much is your career worth? $36,000 cash in a pie box. That's very very Brubaker-ish.

If you're thinking, "That's at the state level; we're better off locally." Then you don't know Jack. Jack Gillean who refused to even entertain us with a good reason 'why' he gave UCA students/friends his campus master key to steal exams, lost his integrity as quickly as some of us misplace our keys. And, like President Courtway, I wanted to be wrong about Gillean. He was found guilty and sentenced yesterday in Judge Clawson's courtroom in Clinton.

Judges. I don't want to geaux there but judges are tough characters to figure out. The ethics codes that measure judges are higher than others. Their ways are not our ways. But in the case of Circuit Judge Mike Maggio who was recently exposed as 'geauxjudge' on a blog site where he made comments that made me blush and look into the meaning of 'rodeo sex' then 'justifiable homicide' - the corruption has hit home.

What's harder to believe, that corruption abounds even within our circle of friends or that none of us are really surprised by it?

Aye - Beware the Ides of March. Corruption loves to reveal itself.

needs to run down the block and do a little investigating in the building located at the Southwest corner of Oak and Front. Just might be some odor coming out of that place as well. Don't know that. I have always heard where there is smoke you gonna find a fire.

Don't forget

Those sets of buildings out there off of Hwy. 64W, just before crossing the cadron bridge. Should be some investigating out there as well.....

I am not familiar with that location. Hwy 64W does not go over Cadron Ridge but a gap through it on your way to Menifee,Plunerville, etc.

$36,000

a $36,000 payoff on a $2,700,000 commission?
She's not only crooked, she was ripped-off like a fool.

Either that or the payoff was much bigger than we are led to believe.

UCA..Most people are smart enough know how the key was earned.

I have to thumbs up that CG

It is a shame we had to let one of the crooks who got that commission from the state money go free. I don't know if the commission was seized as part of the 'immunity' deal, but it should have been. Further, the business which proffered the bribe should be barred from doing business with any state entity for a minimum of 25 years.

As for UCA and earning the key, yeah I'll have to give you that one too!

good question

Ya know I wondered about that too, Reader, whether that business involved in the extortion was still eligible to bid and do state business.
