I've been a baseball fan twice in my life.
I followed the Braves back in 1991 and was disappointed. It was the same year Jimmy Connors was on a hot streak at the U.S. Open.
I remember the Sosa-McGwire battle in the late 90s, the steriod debacle in front of Congress and Pete Rose's drama. <sigh>
And then I watched the Yankees in 2001 lose to Randy Johnson. I haven't checked back in with the sport since then.
That's a lie - I watched Jose Canseco on The Surreal Life and a handful of people know that I had inside information on the theft and return of a life-sized cutout of said baseball player for about five years.
I almost jumped on the Dodgers' bandwagon a few weeks ago and then they up and lost. Then I almost jumped on the Detroit bandwagon because Magnum P.I. used to wear a Tigers hat on the show. I like the Cardinals because Nelly is from the Loo and I'm a fan of his.
I love baseball movies. Well, I love Kevin Costner movies and he makes a lot of baseball movies.
So, I'm pulling out the ONE baseball shirt I have and I'm going to the Miracle League event tomorrow night at the Old Gin. It's for the best cause ever....giving special needs children a chance to play the game (and giving their parents and minute to sit back and enjoy watching) and my favorite part about the new Miracle League field is that it will require support from other kids and ball teams to give back. That's buiding better kids. I love that and I'll support that and I may even learn why you baseball people are so passionate about this sport!
