Usually I save the self analysis for my birthday month but with shifts in community, work and personal responsibilities, I see things a-changin'. It's healthy every few years to question yourself and your motives. It's also healthy to ask those same questions about people around you.
My expectations are too high. I want too much. I know these things about myself. I've given myself permission to be a dork but I like looking cool so it's a daily dilemma. I'm best in a gang. In Grease terms, I think I'm Rizzo but I'm probably more like Marty because she always had her own agenda.
I'm uncomfortable seeing people doing things outside of their positions and that's been happening a lot lately. For example, who exactly is getting a check from Exxon? I can say without hesitation that no one from the Log Cabin is on their payroll. How is that changing daily activities in Faulkner County? We're almost seven months after the oil spill, houses are being torn down, water is still being tested, lawyers are involved. Is the unified command center still calling the shots? Are the attornies making decisions on behalf of the environment? It may be time to take a closer look at who's speaking for Mayflower and Arkansas residents and who's speaking for the oil company.
Anyway, that's what Rizzo would do.
