The Presbyterians Cross the Finish Line

News today the Presbyterian Church USA will allow ministers to perform marriages between same sex couples is welcomed on the march to full equality from LGBTQ activsts.  This is the largest denomination of Presbyterians in the US since the schizm over the issue split the denomination.

The action must still be approved by the 179 Presbyteries in the denomination before final acceptance but in states where it is legal the church has already approved ministers to perform same sex marriages.

Other denominations are examining the same action.

Freedom and Equality will continue their march to victory and the decision by the Presbyterian Church is a milestone on that road.  In time, we will see more of these acceptances of reality (Methodist?) by churches who decide to leave judgement up to the God they worship, instead of taking it on themselves, as their own Bible commands them.

They will face the wrath of those who disagree, and further schizms may occur.  The denominations decision to face the wrath of others is a sign of true courage and I for one, admire it.

Caught and released

I was raised in the Presbyterian church and I'm happy to hear that one branch of whatever it has become has not lost its collective mind. For better or worse, I gave up on Christianity when wrath replaced love as God's defining characteristic. It's good to hear that there are still some who have not given up.

U.S. Presbyterian Church to shed investments in Israel protest

"A deeply-divided gathering of U.S. Presbyterian Church elders and ministers narrowly voted on Friday to divest the religious group's holdings in three American companies it says have ties to Jewish settlements in occupied Palestinian Territories."
