Music Video.... Good Times!

At the end of August when I took the job as the Community News Editor, Rick had told me that they were talking to a band here in Conway who were wanting to get some video put together of them.  He asked me if this would be something that I would be interested in….  Being that I love to shoot video I jumped at the opportunity.  I went to UCA to do film and here was my opportunity to put my education to work for work.  It makes paying the bazillion dollars worth of student loans worth it!

I was able to get in touch with the band, through email. The Calm Coming consists of Matthew Huff and Dean Hatcher.  Huff and Hatch, as I like to call them (they don’t know those are my nicknames for them, lol), and I met for dinner one night to discuss details of what they were looking for from this video, the song we chose was “Back Again”.  Immediately we hit it off.  The ideas were flowing.  We were going to do an actual music video.  Not a documentary, not a fluff piece on how they met, but a full fledge music video that they wanted to send to GAC (Great American Country).  The song was picked.  The story was decided.  All that’s left now is the filming.  The guys have been playing gigs at Doe’s on Thursday nights.  They were able to get it cleared with the General Manager Jason to shoot some scenes there (a special thanks to Doe’s and Jason for allowing us to film). So we had our venue for a bulk of the video.

The story we decided on is about a relationship that’s gone south. The girlfriend is the one who drives the relationship to its ultimate demise.  Not attentive enough, prefers time with her friends to time with her boyfriend, stays out all night, she basically takes over the role of the stereotypical uncaring male or “tool” in the relationship.  They break up.  So the video will chronicle their relationship from start to finish.  The relationship ends, which devastates our main character played by Huff.  He takes out his frustrations in solo performances, with nothing but his guitar.  Enter Hatch.  Hatch sees Huff out playing and vice versa.  The two don’t know each other and happen to bump into each other one night.  They talk and hit it off and fast forward to them forming a band together: The Calm Coming.  One relationship ends while another begins.

We shot a bunch of scenes last night at Doe’s Eat Place.  There was a packed crowd on hand because of the UCA Coach’s Show, the UCA Pep Rally and the video shoot. After taking a look at the footage, I feel that we should have a really good final piece to present once all filming is done.

You should check out their website http://thecalmcoming.ning.com and listen to their songs.  They are a very talented group of guys. I hope success continues to come their way and I’m able to put together a video that they can be proud of.
