The Government vs Flex Seal

So which would be more realistic? Spraying a screen door at the bottom of a boat with Flex seal and putting it on the Arkansas River and having it actually float or relying on the government to do their job and get our country back on track? It’s not about religious beliefs anymore. It’s not about right or left. It’s about plain economics. The income tax isn’t coming in like it was because the people are unemployed. We won’t even begin to delve into that issue. Since that tax isn’t coming in, spending and the size of the government has to get smaller! That’s simple economics. The government has gotten so out of touch with reality and the common man, it isn’t even funny anymore. I know it’s been said before but it would not be a bad idea for our congressmen, senators to collect a paycheck until they actually do something for our country that is beneficial.

We’ve done a wonderful job of securing our borders. Yet we won’t have to have anyone attacking our borders with planes, missiles and men because we are right on target for destroying our own country by economic means. China practically owns us and we do not have the means of paying them back. What do we do when they come to collect? The populous has become enamored with honey booboo and Jersey shore and has no clue as to the plight of our country. You don’t think the government knows that?

This insignificant piece of literature won’t even make a dent into the populous of Conway, let alone America but if it can make a few of the common Americans think about what’s going on for a bit, then I suppose I’ve done some good. Overall, it’s just time to wake up my fellow Americans. Turn you faces from the feed bowls and flashing lights for just a bit. Our country is in trouble as we sleep and slumber. God Bless.

You hit the nail on the head...

....As a country, we're heading toward financial ruin at the speed of light. However, until it interupts American Idol (or for this state - a Razorback football game), most people will choose to ignore it until it is too late.

Oh, I don't know

It looks like we've turned the corner after The Great Recession (and really, "Great?" we need to get marketing on this). Although it's a slow recovery, that's the kind which is the most stable in the long term.

Recent econ news just in Arkansas reflects this (with more expected today).

Plus with the global economic dependencies of the economy, the risk for war between superpowers is much lower than in the (isolationist) times past.

Plus we live in a time where you can re-seal your boat with stuff from a spray can, and communicate about it without a gatekeeper/filter.

Glass half full, my friend.

hmmm

Somebody missed the negative GDP report yesterday.

Not saying the sky is falling, but to call a negative number "growth" and "turning the corner" is....um....political GENIUS.

Carry on.

If history teaches us

If history teaches us anything it's that low taxes + stable money = prosperity.

Well, why didn't you say so?

All's good in the soup-lines then.

I saw this guy with a cardboard sign

"Will work for Apple or Google stock or any DOW component".

It's not

It's not all about the government, or congressional problems, or flex seal.

complacency is a major problem.

We (as Americans) are lazy. Simple as that. We want cheap or free stuff and we want to be paid millions for holding the chair down. While that's great and I like that idea too, it's lead us to dependency on a ton of things that we really should be self-sufficient with. Chinese products are a great example. We can build almost everything here that we import. However it would cost twice as much by the time you pay the janitor $90,000/yr and give him a $5000 christmas bonus, pay the CEO's $1M biannual bonus, and pay the lawyers fees to bail them out because some lazy pile of trash used the product improperly and they're suing them for $2.3B. It's issues like this that make ANY company worth a penny want to move out of the states. Cheaper overhead. While that is ok for the bottom line, the side effect is that we are no longer self-sufficient. I feel fairly confident that if world war were to break out (heaven forbid) we, the USA, would not be able to help ourselves.

Next lazy problem is voting. People need to get your head out of your posterior and vote. Voter turnout in 2012 was dismally low. You as a citizen of the United States not only have the RIGHT to vote, you have a RESPONSIBILITY to vote. If you don't vote, you keep your mouth shut on the issues that can be directly aimed at the administration you did not vote for or against. Is that simple enough?

Lastly, we are in Arkansas. We are usually about 5 years or so behind the rest of the country in about everything. Schools, roads, highways, and economics just to name a couple. Though the rest of the country is starting to see an improvement in the economy, I do not believe Arkansas has seen the worst yet. Give us a year or two before we start to catch up with the rest of the U.S. In the meantime, buckle up and keep the puke bags handy because there is turbulence ahead.
