Out of the park

The hiring of former Conway star Chris Curry as new Arkansas-Little Rock baseball coach is a home run.

We'll elaborate in future stories and columns but Curry is a great fundamental teacher of the game, a continuing student of basball, relates well to young people and is a man of high-character.

He's also coached on every level of college baseball from Division III (Hendrix), Division II (Arkansas Tech), Division I (Arkansas and Northwestern Louisiana) and junior college (Meridian Community College). He has connections in high school, junior college and college throughout the Southeast.

He's played in college and would through the minor leagues with several stops.

And he's passionate about the UALR job and its potential.

With Curry, UCA's Allen Gum, Arkansas State's Tommy Raffo and Arkansas' Dave Van Horn, this state has some of the finest and best college baseball coaches in the country, not only with fundamentals but with leadership.
