The cassette tape is 50 years old.
For some of us who grew up in prehistoric electronics, it was the coolest thing ever — smaller and more portable than an 8-track.
It was cool until the tiny tape broke or was jammed in the player — or got demagnetized.
I remember when a box of them would keep me company on long road trips.
The tape player eventually paved the way for the SONY Walkman, which eventually ran away upon the creation of CD, disc players, smart phones and MP3 players.
So, happy birthday to the cassette. We'll sing it along with a CD.
