Better than it sounds

I'll admit, when I told people back in Georgia I was moving to Arkansas I got a fairly uniform answer:

"There?"

It often reminded me of the "Arrested Development" quote "Her?" spoken when various characters referred to Ann Veal, George Michael Bluth's unimpressive girlfriend. Not usually a good response.

But I knew there were hidden - and not so hidden - gems in Arkansas. Little Rock is a pretty neat city, and several influential businesses and people have come out of this state.

Today I had the opportunity to go to the launch of Startup Arkansas where I met several entrepreneurs from across the state. I was impressed with the innovation and dedication the business owners expressed.

Some of the speakers had the excitement of a college student excited to jump into their chosen field paired with the experience of already starting a successful business.

It seemed like everyone there did not just want to succeed, but wanted the state and other startups in the state to succeed.

Arkansas may not have a New York City-type area or Silicon Valley, but there seems to be some pretty cool things happening here.

Thank Goodness!

I, for one, Ms. Spencer, am eternally grateful that we do not have a "New York City-type area or Silicon Valley." I can understand that a younger person such as yourself might enjoy the excitement and the activity that thrives in such areas, but I much prefer the slower, more laid back atmosphere that characterizes our state. Arkansas is certainly not perfect, but I do believe most folks here have a different set of priorities than those of the citizens of larger, busier locales. Having said that, however, I also welcome bright young people such as yourself who add a bit of spice to our melting pot.

I've spent quite a bit of

I've spent quite a bit of time in New York (and places like it) and I think it's refreshing to live in a place like this where there are opportunities either to relax or go out and find something to do depending on how I'm feeling that day. I'm excited for the weather to warm up so there are more farmers markets and outdoor activities. However, I am not excited about the mosquitos! They're pretty killer here...

Things might be a little slow and backwards around here but that is just way we like it.

Bet you one thing for sure if you are ever caught in a lerch there will be plenty of folks to go out of there way to help you out.
