Arkansas HB 1408 - Making Concealed Carry Privacy Moot - in a BAD WAY

David Meeks, our local state representative (supposedly representative) is one of the sponsors of a new House Bill to allow open carry of "arms in certain places" for "self defense and for 'other purposes'.  The entirety of the bill can be found in pdf format here:

http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/assembly/2013/2013R/Bills/HB1408.pdf

So now that we have wasted all this time arguing and passing a bill protecting the names of Concealed Carry Permit holders, which was signed into law by acting Governor Darr, we have a bill which will convert all Concealed Carry Permits into Permitted Open Carry Permits.  Meaning all law abiding citizens will be allowed to apply for permits to openly carry firearms in public.  Talk about going back in time.  Is this really necessary?  We are going to go back to the old west in the 21st century because a few people are paranoid about being in public?  What will the legislature do next?  I want to go on record as a constituent of Rep. David Meeks (R) that I oppose this bill he co-sponsored and object to even the idea of passing such legislation.  When will you get the legislature back on track to do something about JOBS, Education and other legitimate pressing matters, instead of just guns and abortion David?   This many people carrying weapons in the open can only add to the stress our children already feel in our current violent society.  I urge you to withdraw your co-sponsorship and support of this legislation before we become the new Old West.

Kill this bill in committee now!

I'll get to wear my gun belt. LOL

Just kidding, yeah 'open carry' is a bit much.

I'm all for self-defense, but keep it concealed, unless your name is Yosemite.

If you REALLY want to stop

If you REALLY want to stop crime, allow judges to assign 3 random death penalties a year for whatever crime... "Ohh you were guilty of speeding?? DEATH PENALTY!!"

"Ohh you burglarized a home? DEATH PENALTY!"

I bet that would REALLY cut down on even the most petty crimes.

YESSSSS!!!!

Better get to the cross walk! of course a true friend, if you get hit while jay-walking, will drag you to the cross walk.

Seriously though, if they could do that, do you not think it'd cut down on crime????

I like it and here is how I

I like it and here is how I would do it.

Strap an explosive vest on the offender and let him sit in the middle of the prison yard ties to a chair with him holding the trigger. As long as he has it held down he lives. He life would be truly in his own hands.

Eliminate the cruel injection and make this the form of execution. Its a win-win.

yeah, the old wild west argument again

It would be tragic if we had any form of open carry (like 44 other states already have)....we'll have gun fights in the streets again (just like they do in TN and OK now that they have open carry).

This law gives permit holders the option of either concealed or open. The sky's not falling in on you, people in other states have open carried for many years now (with and without permits) and they didn't turn into the wild west with shootouts in the streets and robbers stealing peoples gun right off their hips.

The proposed law still requires an individual to receive training and a background check from the state police. So if I'm trained and cleared to carry concealed how does it magically become more dangerous for me to carry openly? Is it because it scares you to see my gun in a holster?
