Argentinean Federal Judge Dr. Eduardo Freiler will present a series of free public lectures entitled “International Human Rights: A Latin America Perspective” sponsored by the University of Central Arkansas Office of International Engagement, in partnership with the Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock.
A lecture will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 in the College of Business Auditorium at UCA, and he will host students in private roundtable discussions on the UCA campus. Freiler also will speak at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9 at Sturgis Hall at the Clinton School of Public Service. All lectures will be presented in both English and Spanish.
Freiler currently serves as the President of the Chamber of Appeals of the Criminal Court of Buenos Aires and is an authority in the field of human rights. He has been a professor for 14 years, serving at the Department for Postgraduate and PhD studies from the University of Seville School of Law. He was also an academic advisor in criminal law for the Council of Magistrates of the Province of Buenos Aires, Juror of the Council of Magistrates of the National Justice System for Judges’ selection, and has developed an extensive educational career, lecturing in multiple law schools in the Americas and Europe.
He has published dozens of papers and book chapters and attended more than 50 international conferences and seminars as a speaker and lecturer in the fields of Human Rights, the fight against Terrorism and Drug consumption, and Prosecuting Human Rights Violations and the International Criminal Court.
Freiler received his Doctorate in Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences at the School of Law of the University of El Salvador in Buenos Aires. He has received two Honoris Causae PhDs, one from the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas, Mexico in 2004 and the other from the Latin American Council on Education Quality Honor. He was also awarded the “Honorable Latin American Educator” from the Ibero-American Council for Educational Quality Honor, in Lima, Peru in 2004.
Most recently, in 2013, Freiler was awarded the “Regional Latin American Leadership for Peace Award” for his work and commitment towards Human Rights in the Americas, by Fundación Argentina de Jóvenes at the City Council of Buenos Aires.
